Ella's neonatologist the past couple days has been wonderful. I am glad Ella stayed this week. At first I was saddened that she had the diagnosis of Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). I read about it and was a bit worried. Then, I started reading about Pulmonary Hypertension and expectations for the next 1-2 years. What I was reading about BPD just didn't seem to be Ella. Ella has been doing so well. She has been weaned off oxygen well until the end, gaining weight and eating well. I discussed BPD with the Neonatologist today. Basically, she said that Neonatology is a newer type of medicine. The older version of BPD, babies were sicker. Now BPD has different levels of severity. Ella has a very mild case of BPD.
Her Echocardiogram was NORMAL. I am beyond relieved that her heard is just fine.
She had blood work today which shows she is still anemic. She is forming RBC's at a slow rate. She received a unit of packed cells today. I believe this is her 3rd transfusion. Hopefully, this will help her get off her oxygen.
All in all, I feel better about how Ella is doing.
